Matt Mills endured an established career in the EFL before hanging up his boots at the end of last season.

The defender came through the ranks at Southampton, before undergoing spells with the likes of Doncaster Rovers, Reading and Bolton Wanderers.

In 2015, Mills made arguably the biggest move of his career, joining Nottingham Forest on a free transfer as the Reds looked to escape the Championship under Dougie Freedman.

Mills spent three years on Trentside, and was a key player under Freedman during the Scot's tutelage of the club.

The defender made 87 appearances across all competitions for Forest, and eventually left the club in 2018 to join Barnsley on a free transfer.

Mills' final club was Forest Green Rovers, and was let go at the end of last season before deciding to announce his retirement from the game.

On his personal Instagram page, Mills has been reflecting on his career by answering fans' questions.

One fan asked him which club he'd play one more game for if he had the choice - his answer was Nottingham Forest.

Mills says he loved the pre-match 'Mull of Kintrye' song, which goes a long way in building the atmosphere right before kick-off.

The Verdict

Forest are arguably the biggest club Mills ever played for, and he would have liked to achieve a lot more with them.

Forest were in a bit of a mess off the pitch during his time at the City Ground, and never really got off to a good start under Freedman.

He will look back on his time with the Reds as one that could have been better.
