Following their relegation from the Championship last season, Ipswich Town have made a very promising start to life in League One.

The Tractor Boys are currently second in the league table - three points behind leaders Wycombe Wanderers, with two games in hand.

Paul Lambert's side have won ten of their opening 17 league matches, have the best defensive record in the division and are scoring plenty of goals too.

Ipswich legend Matt Holland has given his take on the Blues' start to the season and has been very impressed with what he's seen so far.

The former midfielder has admitted that Ipswich have put themselves in a great position to win promotion and believes that James Norwood and Kayden Jackson - who have 14 goals between them this season - have formed a very strong partnership up front.

Holland told iFollow Ipswich: "I think the aim at the start of the season was to get promoted and as things stand, I think we're in a great position."

"I think it helps when you've got two strikers that play well together. Obviously Norwood is a real goal threat, him and Jackson together look a really good partnership. So yeah, I think overall Paul Lambert will be pretty pleased with what he's seen so far."

The Verdict

I completely agree with Holland here. Ipswich have made a very promising start to the season in League One and are in a very strong position in the table at the moment.

There's still a long way to go yet, but Ipswich have given fans at Portman Road every reason to feel confident of their chances of returning to the Championship at the first time of asking.

They've got some tough games coming up, but the players have shown brilliant hunger and desire so far this season. If they continue to approach each game with the right mentality, they've got a great chance of winning automatic promotion.
