Swansea City have recently announced that midfielder, Matt Grimes has been named as the club's captain for the upcoming season.

Grimes took to Twitter to send a message to the Swansea supporters following the announcement, and described it as an honour to be named captain for the upcoming season.

Grimes featured in all but one league game last season for the Swans, as they finished 10th in the Championship league table.

But it's been a summer of change at the club, with Graham Potter departing to become Brighton's new manager, whilst star man, Daniel James has left in favour of a move to Manchester United.

Oliver McBurnie looks as though he's edging closer to a move to Sheffield United, so it's going to be a nervy few weeks ahead before the transfer window closes.

Swansea will be hoping to make a timely return to the Premier League, although it'll be a tough ask this season in what is a fiercely competitive division.

Grimes will lead his Swansea side out for their opening game of the season against Hull City, where they'll be hoping to get their 2019/20 league campaign off to a winning start.

The Verdict:

He would have been the obvious choice.

Grimes knows the club well, and has already displayed his leadership qualities during last year's campaign, so it's the right move by Swansea to appoint him as their new captain ahead of the new Championship season.

There will be a weight of expectation on his shoulders now though, but I think he'll be able to deal with that well, and thrive on the pressure.
