Matt Doherty has confirmed that Benik Afobe is keen on making his loan move with Wolverhampton Wanderers permanent in the summer.

Wolves are now preparing for a return to the Premier League, after their promotion in the Sky Bet Championship was confirmed over the course of the weekend.

Afobe arrived at Molineux for a second spell with Wolves in January, initially joining on-loan from AFC Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old striker has bagged five goals in 14 appearances back in old gold, making a good impact as Wolves pushed for promotion.

Discussing Afobe’s future with Wolves, Doherty confirmed to the Birmingham Mail that the striker was keen on re-signing for the club permanently in the summer, he said: “He would love to come permanently next summer."

Afobe, who still has two years remaining on his deal with Bournemouth, scored his fifth goal since returning to Molineux on Sunday, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side edged past Birmingham City.

It has been confirmed by the Telegraph that Nuno wants to sign Afobe permanently during the summer, with the same report confirming that Willy Boly, another loan star, will also be signed on a permanent deal.

The Telegraph believe that Wolves will pay a combined £20m to sign the on-loan duo.

The Verdict

Doherty’s comments, combined with reports elsewhere, suggest that Afobe moving to Molineux will be reasonably straightforward.

Afobe has struggled since moving to Bournemouth, with the striker much more settled since his return to Wolverhampton.

After a classy impact during recent weeks, it is easy to see why Nuno wants to add Afobe to his squad on a permanent deal.
