West Bromwich Albion moved nine points clear of third place after a 3-0 win against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

The Baggies knew that a win could see them increase the gap between themselves and third place come 5pm, and they took advantage of Fulham, Brentford and Nottingham Forest all dropping points.

Albion took the lead in the first-half thanks to two goals in quick succession from Callum Robinson and Hal Robson-Kanu, with the latter adding a third goal on 79 minutes following a mistake from Dan Bentley.

Two minutes before their third goal, West Brom were reduced to 10-men when Romaine Sawyers saw red, for putting his hand around the throat of former Walsall teammate Jamie Paterson.

But that didn't come back to haunt the Baggies, as they held on and saw out a magnificent 3-0 win on the road, with automatic promotion to the Premier League looking more of a possibility as weeks go by.

Plenty of reason for Albion to celebrate, then, and there was brilliant scenes after the game when the players went over to join in with the celebrations, in front of nearly 3,000 fans in the away end.

The club's official Twitter account captured Matheus Pereira leading the cheers, with the classy Brazilian sending a two-word message to fans after the game.

West Brom face Preston North End at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night, which is another big game in the race for promotion.

The Verdict

That was a classy performance from West Brom against a good Bristol City side at the weekend.

They dominated the ball and looked far better going forward, and even when they were reduced to 10-men, they still looked to attack and create chances and they got their just rewards when Bentley made a mistake.

Bilic's side look very likely to win promotion to the top-flight this season, and it's impossible to disagree with away performances like that.
