Leeds United's clash with Aston Villa on Sunday was marred by controversy when Marcelo Bielsa's side scored a goal while their opponents had stopped playing for an injury.

Jonathan Kodjia had gone down injured just inside the Leeds half, to which Villa called for the home side to put the ball out. However, Tyler Roberts then passed the ball down the wing to Mateusz Klich to cut inside and put the Whites in front.

Villa players reacted furiously to this incident, with Anwar El Ghazi receiving a red card in the scuffle that followed. But then, Bielsa allowed Villa to walk the ball into the net in an act of sportsmanship that saw that levelled the scores to 1-1.

Klich has now spoken out regarding the incident, claiming he was not aware of what had happened to Kodjia.

"I didn't see the Aston Villa player laying on the ground," Klich told LUTV.

"The referee didn't stop the game and I thought we were playing on and I got the ball and was focused on the action."

Klich, who has scored nine goals in 45 appearances this term, was surrounded by the Villa players when he fired home which led to a melee on the Elland Road pitch.

However, the situation was eventually resolved when Albert Adomah was allowed to run the ball into the net straight from kick-off.

The Verdict

Klich's comments make sense, as it did appear unusual when he broke down the wing after play had seemingly ground to halt.

It is understandable that he was desperate to score, as it was a very evenly poised game.

The teams reached the right conclusion eventually, but Klich can hardly be blamed for playing on if he didn't see Kodjia's injury.
