Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship table on Tuesday, as they beat previous league leaders West Brom 1-0 at Elland Road.

Up against a side who had previously been unbeaten in the league this season, Ezgjan Alioski's strike from Jack Harrison's lay-off 38 minutes into the match was enough to bring an end to that run for Slaven Bilic's side, and secure the three points for Leeds in the battle between two of the pre-season promotion favourites.

Having taken just one point from their previous two league games despite dominating both - drawing 1-1 at home to Derby and losing 1-0 away at Charlton to fall from first to fourth in the Championship standings - a return to winning ways against one of their likely promotion rivals this season will have been a huge relief for Marcelo Bielsa's men.

That is something that Mateusz Klich in particular appeared to demonstrate in his reaction to the win on social media post-match.

Taking to his

Accompanied by a love-heart eyes emoji and the Leeds' hashtag 'mot'.

Having resumed their place at the top of the table, Leeds are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to The Den to take on Millwall.

The Verdict

I don't think there is much surprise about the emotions on show here.

Having come under some scrutiny for their performances in the past couple of games, it does feel as though Leeds have proved something of a point with their win here.

The fact that it has come against another side expected to challenge for promotion in the shape of West Brom only serves to reinforce the view that Leeds will be capable of going all the way in the battle for a place in the Premier League this season.

Given it was Klich that missed what would have surely been a match-sealing penalty in the draw with Derby, you can understand why he in particular will be feeling a sense of relief after his side's return to winning ways here.
