It was an afternoon for Bolton Wanderers supporters and manager Neil Lennon to forget, as the Whites were defeated 4-1 by Huddersfield Town following a disastrous second half performance.

Terriers boss Chris Powell named an unchanged Town side who claimed their first win of the season away at Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night, whilst Lennon made two changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Sheffield Wednesday, with Emile Heskey and Stephen Dobbie coming in for Gary Madine and the injured Zach Clough.

Neil Lennon's Bolton Wanderers were thumped 4-1 by Huddersfield Town yesterday

The same fixture last season involved an early goal for the Wanderers and the same happened again as in the third minute, Liam Feeney fired his second in three games after a superb long-ball by Dean Moxey to give the visitors the lead.

It was downhill for Bolton from then however, as Heskey was replaced by Gary Madine after the veteran sustained a hamstring injury after just 10 minutes.

Bolton did control the game however up until the 40 minute mark, and when Huddersfield pressure resulted in a corner kick, the Terriers levelled the score. Harry Bunn played the corner to the edge of the box to an unmarked Emyr Huws, who was still not closed down when he received the ball, before drilling a shot past keeper Ben Amos.

The goal before half time gave Huddersfield a massive boost which they took into the second half, as they pushed Bolton onto the back foot straight from the restart, but having 10 men to start didn't help the Whites after defender Prince was late to return to the pitch.

Lawrie Wilson could not handle the pace and skill of Mustapha Carayol, as the Boro loanee was firing in dangerous crosses into the Bolton box. It wasn't long before Huddersfield capitalised on their pressure, as Carayol yet again beat Wilson, before cutting onto his right foot and slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Bolton struggled to contain Huddersfield, including former Real Madrid defender Derik Osede, who was given a final warning on a yellow card in the 65th minute.

As the Wanderers invited more pressure onto them as the game reached the final stages, Carayol was yet again beating Wilson, as his low cross was turned in by Huws for his second of the game. Wilson's day then went from bad to worse, when the right back was caught in possession inside his own box, before Joel Lynch drilled a shot past the Bolton keeper Amos.

The visitors may have thought that their day couldn't get any worse, until Derik needlessly tripped Nahki Wells in the closing moments of the game to pick up his marching orders, capping off a woeful afternoon for the Trotters.

The result moves Huddersfield up to 13th place on nine points, whilst Bolton drop down to 21st, just one point above the relegation zone.

The next month doesn't look good viewing for Wanderers fans, as they face Brighton, QPR and Burnley in the next four weeks.

Huddersfield's next three games also look challenging, with trips to Wolves and Ipswich on the horizion, but manager Powell will hope to take the momentum gained from the two wins this week into those fixtures.
