Chris Gunter scored in the 115th minute as Reading saw off Colchester United 1-0 after extra-time of their Capital One tie at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The Royals struggled to break down their League One opponents as they found goalkeeper Sam Walker in good form but, with a penalty shootout looming, Gunter fired home the winner to send his side through to the second round.

Walker produced brilliant saves to deny Nick Blackman and Danny Williams in the first half, while Richard Brindley’s long-range effort was well gathered at the other end by Ali Al-Habsi.

The Colchester keeper injured himself in denying Stephen Quinn in the second half and was replaced by Elliot Parish, who had the woodwork to thank in extra-time when Alex Wynter’s clearance rattled against his own crossbar.

There was nothing he could do, though, in the 115th minute, when Gunter was found by Oliver Norwood before finishing neatly to send Steve Clarke’s men through.

Reading fans……. What do you make of this? Was it a good result in the end? Let us know your thoughts below!
