Bury have moved into the Sky Bet League One play-off places after a Nathan Cameron header was enough to sink Port Vale 1-0 at Gigg Lane.

The winner came with just 12 minutes left to play, when Chris Hussey’s corner was met by the head of defender Cameron to open up his account for the season.

Ex-Vale man Tom Pope caused problems throughout but the visitors themselves weren’t without chances of their own, and Uche Ikpeazu was a constant danger throughout the contest, just as he has been all season so far.

Reece Brown could have made it 2-0 to David Flitcroft’s side when he met yet another Hussey corner, but this time he bundled the ball wide of the post.

The key turning point came just after Pope departed for Danny Rose, and was met with ovations from both sets of fans. Just minutes later, Hussey whipped in a corner and Cameron rose highest to power a header home.

Bury’s characteristically strong defence didn’t buckle despite late pressure and the Shakers held on for a third consecutive league win. Port Vale find themselves 15th after back-to-back defeats.
