Match report – Blackburn Rovers 0-0 Huddersfield Town

Published

Ewood Park is not usually a happy place to visit for Huddersfield Town but The Terriers came away with a satisfactory point in a goalless draw with Blackburn Rovers.

It was ironic that the game had no goals even though two of the Championship hotshots in James Vaughan and ex-Town striker Jordan Rhodes were on the field.

It was a game of few chances but Town had the best of the them but lady luck wasn’t on their side.

Jazz Richards made his full debut for The Terriers since joining on loan from Swansea City resulting in Oliver Norwood dropping to the bench. With Paul Dixon on the left wing and Richards on the right, Adam Hammill started in a role behind the two strikers.

Blackburn’s Josh King was causing problems down the right and Tommy Spurr fired over Scott Dann’s knock down from a Rovers corner and then Dann himself had a chance but headed straight over the bar.

Hammill sliced a shot wide when in a good position at the other end then from a Jonathan Hogg cross Hammill’s header forced Jake Kean into a superb save tipping the ball around the post.

Spurr then bundled over Hammill in the penalty area after the winger had beaten the defender collecting Vaughan’s knock down but the referee waved away the appeals.

Vaughan hit the bar with a thumping header from Dixon’s left wing cross but had the ball found the net it would have been ruled out for offside.

At the other end Rhodes was equally quiet as Vaughan and the former Town striker uncharacteristically fired way over the cross bar from Tom Cairney’s cross.

Into the second half Oscar Gobern was brought on for Jon Stead early on and the extra man in midfield gave Town a better control of the game.

Hammill sent away Dixon but the Scottish left back saw his cross was way to over hit for Vaughan.

Blackburn’s Chris Taylor was unlucky with a curled effort that was just off target after the winger had beaten Joel Lynch but the half petered out with both sides having possession but lacking anything in the final third.
