The Royals looked the better team in the early stages with Reading forcing an opportunity in the first few minutes after Gunter did well on the overlap down the right side, however his pass was intercepted at the crucial stage.

Reading continued to look the dominant team, however AFC Bournemouth started to utilise their pacy wingers and winger Matt Ritche played through Cherries striker Calum Wilson who misfired his final ball.

In the 14th minute the home side had their first dangerous opportunity after Reading defender Alex Pearce misheaded a ball straight into Brett Pitman's path but Federici was there to stop the danger.

The first real chance for Reading came in the 36th minute as Hal Robson-Kanu headed over from point blank range from a Chris Gunter cross.

After great work down the right-hand flank, Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie beat Jordan Obita and thundered a shot just before half-time which clipped the far post.

Both teams went in at the half-time mark goalless, after a close first-half with neither team able to capitalise on the opportunities presented to them.

Reading came out of the blocks better in the second half with Simon Cox testing Bournemouth goalkeeper Artur Boruc with a low drive in the 48th minute.

On the 50th minute, AFC Bournemouth broke the deadlock after Charlie Daniels beat Chris Gunter down the right-hand flank and placed a perfect cross straight onto the head of Calum Wilson who cooly headed the ball past Federici.

The Cherries extended their lead six minutes later after Royals defender Michael Hector was dispossessed by Calum Wilson and he played in Brett Pitman who slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

AFC Bournemouth took advantage of the poor Royals defending and made it 3-0  in the 62nd minute, after Andrew Surman took a corner and it landed perfectly on the head of Brett Pitman to bag his second of the game.

Federici saved the Royals from further embarrassment in the 77th minute after a fine save from him kept out Marc Pugh's low effort, and the goalkeeper's heroics didn't stop there after he saved a point blank effort from Calum Wilson two minutes later.

in the 86th minute, Cherries substitute Tokelo Rantie nearly made an immediate impact but his powerful low drive was saved just about by Federici.

It turned out to be a commanding victory for Eddie Howe's side and it propels them into a eighth place, whilst leaving Reading languishing in the bottom half of the Sky Bet Championship table.
