Struggling Newcastle United host Championship side Sheffield Wednesday as both sides look to continue their cup runs.
New Head Coach Steve McClaren confirmed in the summer that he wanted to win a trophy with Newcastle and has previously won the competition with Middlesbrough in 2004.
Although his side are winless in their opening six league games, McClaren is expected to name a strong side as he looks to bring the Geordies their first ever League Cup.
Last season’s top goal scorer Papiss Cisse is a doubt for the game as he has a back problem, while left-back Haidara and local lad Jack Colback are also uncertain for the game.
Their will be a more positive manager in the opposite dug out as Carlos Carvalhal has midfielder Sam Hutchinson available to him again after he served a one-match suspension for collecting five yellow cards.
As well as Hutchinson’s return, loan players Daniel Pudil and Michael Turner have been given permission by Watford and Norwich to play.
Wednesday have had a somewhat inconsistent start to the campaign, winning just two of their opening eight league games. After an opening day victory over Bristol City, Wednesday’s overhauled side had to wait another six games before their next win, beating Fulham 3-2 last weekend.
