League Two side Carlisle United travel to Anfield as they look to capitalise on Brendan Rodgers’ side bad start to the season.
The home side are without skipper Jordan Henderson and summer signing Christian Benteke. Henderson recently had surgery on a broken foot and, in his absence, James Milner has taken the armband. Benteke has a hamstring problem that keep him out of the tie, but Liverpool hope to have him back in time to face his former side Aston Villa at the weekend.
Liverpool’s season has fallen flat in recent weeks after they recorded two wins in their opening two games. Since beaten Bournemouth at Anfield in August, Liverpool are without a win in five games in all competitions and they drawn three of those.
Carlisle go into the tie near full strength as Keith Curle looks to cause another Capital One Cup after previously knocking out Championship side QPR. Former Middlesbrough defender David Atkinson is pushing for a recall to the side after recovering from a hamstring injury. Summer signing Jabo Ibehre is expected to retain his place up front alongside Derek Asamoah, the 32-year old has 10 goals to his name already this season.
Carlisle have lost just two games in all competitions this season but they are aso finding it difficult to keep clean sheets. They have conceded 20 goals in 11 games this season and they will need to tighten up their defence if they are hoping to cause what would be one of the biggest shocks of the round.
