The former Real Madrid assistant manager was given a number of injury boosts this week, with the most notable being the return of George Thorne. The 22-year old has been absent with a calf problem but returned to training this week, and he is back in the squad for today's game.

Captain Chris Baird missed some training this week with illness but after rejoining the squad on Thursday, he is available for the game and is expected to compete with Cyrus Christie for the right-back slot. Scottish midfielder Craig Bryson is closer to a first-team return after receiving injections for his knee problem.

After being winless in their first five games, the Rams have started to live up to their early season promise in the last few weeks with three wins from their past four games.

Last weekend's 3-1 victory over MK Dons saw Clement's side climb up to ninth, just a point outside the play-off places. A win could see them climb up to third if results elsewhere go their way.

Bees caretaker boss Lee Carsley takes charge of his second game since the sacking of Marinus Dijkhuizen, but has a number of injury problems facing him.

Philipp Hofmann (stomach), Marcos Tebar (hamstring), Maxime Colin (knee), Sam Saunders (calf) and Lewis Macleod (hamstring) are all missing while the club are also without long-term absentees Josh McEachran (foot), Jota (ankle), Andreas Bjelland and Scott Hogan (both knee).

However, some positive news for the former Everton midfielder is that new addition John Swift is available after joining on loan from Chelsea. Centre-back James Tarkowski is also available after serving a suspension, but right-back Alan McCormack is suspended.

After a summer of expectation from Brentford fans, the Bees have struggled so far this season and won just two of their opening nine matches. They have only managed to beat newly-promoted sides so far, recording their only wins over Bristol City and Preston North End.

They go into the game on the back of two defeats after losing to Sheffield Wednesday, Dijkhuizen's final game in charge, and Birmingham City. A win could see them climb up to 16th but if results go against them and they lose, they could potentially find themselves bottom of the table.
