The home side are also looking to get back to winning ways after recording two draws in a row after picking up points in their last two away games to Brighton and Preston.

Cardiff have lost one of their six home games in all competitions this season, winning four of them so they will go into the game full of confidence.

Defenders Bruno Manga and Ben Turner are still out so Sean Morrison and Matthew Connolly are expected to retain their places in the line-up. Kenwyne Jones missed the 0-0 draw with Preston with a shin problem and he is also expected to miss the game.

One plus for Russell Slade's men is that captain David Marshall returned to the starting XI against Preston and he will keep his place against Middlesbrough.

Boro manager Aitor Karanka was frustrated with his side's inability to break down Fulham at the weekend and he could make changes as his side travel to the Cardiff City Stadium.

After their winning run was ended by Reading before the international break, Boro were fans hoping that their side would bounce back against the Cottagers but they will now turn their attentions to the trip to Wales.

Top goal scorer Cristhian Stuani missed the weekend game with an injury he picked up on international duty with Uruguay and Karanka confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he will miss this game as well.

Albert Adomah was also on international duty last week and came off the bench against Fulham so he will be pushing to start the game.

Fernando Amorebieta was ineligible to play against Kit Symons' men due to the terms of his loan deal but he is available again and may replace Ben Gibson to partner Daniel Ayala in defence.

Damia Abella, Rhys Williams and Alex Baptiste are all long-term injuries.
