Bottom of the table Crewe Alexandra face a tough trip away at Barnsley this weekend, with the home side going in search of a win which could lift them into the Play-off positions.

Crewe manager Steve Davis thought his side deserved something from their defeat to Chesterfield yesterday
Steve Davis' Crewe will look to get off the bottom of the table when they visit Barnsley this afternoon (3pm kick-off)

Tykes boss Lee Johnson is definitely without striker Simeon Jackson, who is away on international duty with Canada, and Conor Wilkinson.

These absentees will give Crewe's youth filled side a boost and a chance to pick up some points which would lift them closer to safety.

Crewe, however, are without their key man and star striker Marcus Haber, who has also flown to Canada to join the national team. Haber scored in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round match and will be a huge miss for Crewe, who have struggled desperately to score goals this season.

The home side have netted just 11 times in the league this season, which although they are not the worst attacking figures, their tally of 20 goals conceded is the second highest in the division - only Millwall have conceded more (21). It's a disastrous combination which has contributed significantly to their downfall so far this season.

Crewe will need to win by three goals or more, alongside a Fleetwood Town defeat against Coventry City, if they are to climb off the foot of the table, but any point here would be a valuable point in what is likely to be a close and fascinating encounter.
