Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce is seemingly closing in on replacing Rafa Benitez at Newcastle.

That's according to the Telegraph who state that the Premier League side are hoping to finalise the appointment by the weekend, allowing Bruce to go with the Newcastle squad to China next week.

Given he only took over at Hillsborough earlier this year, it would be a major setback for the Owls, particularly as Bruce looked to be building something promising in Yorkshire.

However, as a north-east lad, the chance to manage the club he supported as a kid appears as though it will be too hard to turn down for the 58-year-old.

Even though Wednesday fans get that, they are still very upset that Bruce will be leaving so soon after taking over, especially after the faith Dejphon Chansiri showed in the experienced boss.

Here's some of the reaction to the news that Bruce is closing in on the Newcastle job from Twitter...
