Derby County have announced that they will take on Premier League giants Manchester United in a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2021/22 league campaign.

The Rams are set to return to pre-season training in early July, where they’ll be hoping to challenge higher up the second tier standings.

It was a frustrating season for Derby in the 2020/21 campaign, as they narrowly avoided relegation into League One on the final day, after holding Sheffield Wednesday to a 3-3 draw at Pride Park.

Speaking in to the club’s official website, Derby boss Wayne Rooney labelled the prospect of facing his former club as an ‘excellent opportunity’ for his side test themselves ahead of the new league campaign.

“The game against Manchester United, a club I have a long and proud affiliation and history with, at Pride Park Stadium is a mouth-watering prospect and an excellent opportunity for us to test ourselves against one of the best teams in both England and Europe.”

Plenty of Derby County supporters took to social media to issue their thoughts on the club’s latest pre-season announcement.
