Football League World's Swansea City fan pundit Jacob Bellayuto has delivered his verdict on highly-rated centre-back Ben Cabango penning a new long-term deal with the club.

It has been a breakthrough season for the youth product at The Liberty and the club moved to tie him down to new deal last week, revealing a new three-year contract had been signed.

He has played a big part in Steve Cooper's side this season and Bellayuto is thrilled to see the 19-year-old commit himself in South Wales.

"The new contract for Ben Cabango is massive for the Swans," the regular punter told Football League World.

"He has filled in really well for our injured backline and has raised his game to a high level. He has performed much better than our loan signings in the absence of our starting centre-backs.

"Also, with uncertainty surrounding Mike van der Hoorn and his future, Cabango may find himself unchallenged for the starting role in the upcoming season.

"If van der Hoorn does stay, Cabango would be valuable depth and depending on tactics or form, find himself in the starting lineup anyway.

"He has a bright future and I would not doubt that he could continue growth if we happened to get promoted. Overall he's a young, talented player who we need at the moment, and this is great news for the Swans."

QUIZ: The higher or lower Swansea challenge – Can you get 15/15?

So far this season he has racked up 13 appearances in the second-tier but only made his first showing at the end of November, but has now started ten of their last 14 league matches.

As the league began its suspension as a result of recent events, Cabango and Swansea sat in 11th place but still in the hunt for a play-off place, with three points between themselves and Preston.
