Bristol City have made Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic a defensive transfer target this January, according to the Daily Mail.

The Croatian has struggled for gametime at the King Power Stadium this season, falling behind Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu and Wes Morgan in the pecking order, and Brendan Rodgers is keen for the 22-year-old centre back to go out on loan to gain experience.

City have put themselves into the mix to try and land the defender, but also face competition from Derby County.

Journalist Gregor MacGregor confirmed Bristol City's interest on Friday:

There could be a stumbling block, however. If Benkovic leaves the King Power Stadium this month on loan, the Foxes will have just three centre-backs available to them.

Therefore, a replacement has to come in for Leicester to agree to his departure.

The 22-year-old joined Leicester in August 2018, but has only made two appearances for the Foxes. He spent last season on loan at Celtic.
