Sheffield United have received a huge boost with manager Chris Wilder confirming that midfielder Paul Coutts is due to return to full training next week.
The Blades gaffer was speaking to James Shield of Radio Sheffield following United’s 0-0 pre-season draw with Mansfield, and confirmed that the influential midfielder will indeed return to training next week following his broken leg.
Coutts was superb for the Blades as they romped to League One promotion two seasons ago and has similarly started last season off in fine form, before seeing a clean leg break against Burton Albion end his season abruptly.
Many Blades fans argue that the midfield was not the same following his injury, and despite additions like John Lundstram and Lee Evans stepping into the fold, news of a Coutts return will be greeted with open arms by Blades fans ahead ot the new season.
Coutts was signed by former United boss Nigel Clough, however struggled for form and fitness and was ultimately transfer listed by Chris Wilder when he took over at Bramall Lane. However, Coutts would form the backbone of the midfield alongside John Fleck, and was soon made vice-captain by Wilder.
A return for the former Derby man will be a massive boost for United, who are looking to improve on last season’s impressive tenth place Championship finish.
Blades fans, what do you think of this update? Surely good news! Give us your thoughts in the comments!
