Massimo Cellino is looking to reunite with Gaetano Berardi in Italy, with the Leeds United defender emerging on Brescia’s radar ahead of their return to Serie A in 2019/20.

Leeds are currently preparing themselves for another year in the Championship after watching their promotion dream blow up in the last month, with some of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad attracting interest from elsewhere.

Amongst those is 30-year-old Berardi, who according to Brescia Oggi, is on the radar of Cellino’s latest club following their promotion back to the top-flight of Italian football.

Indeed, Berardi started his senior career with Brescia and made over 100 appearances for them before a spell at Sampdoria ahead of his switch to England.

The controversial Italian infamously ran the rule over Leeds pre-Andrea Radrizzani, and was in fact the man who brought Berardi to Elland Road five years ago.

Since then Berardi has become a real favourite at Leeds and has amassed well over 100 appearances at Elland Road.

However, the versatile defender is in the spotlight at this current time following his needless red card in Leeds’ play-off semi-final defeat to Derby County last week.

That dismissal was Berardi’s seventh of his Leeds career.

The Verdict

This is an interesting link given that Cellino was the man to bring Berardi to England in the first place.

Brescia are embarking on a top-flight return in Italy, and given what has just happened in Leeds, Berardi could well be open to an emotional return to where it all began.

With one year left on his deal at Leeds, the future isn’t clear.
