Massimo Cellino was never short on self confidence but even after leaving Leeds United, he is making boasts about his time at Elland Road.

The sacking of Thomas Christiansen and yet another botched play-off push show that things are not perfect at Leeds right now, but there is now doubt that the club is much better off for Cellino's departure.

Speaking to Giornale di Brescia, the Italian said he is the one who deserves credit for the emergence of Ronaldo Vieira.

When asked about his plans for the youth academy at Brecia - his current club - Cellino said: "Youth academies which has local talent have always produced great players. We must learn to grow and keep our young players.

"In Cagliari I made so many Sardinian players, at Leeds two years ago I launched Ronaldo Vieira, who is very strong."

The Verdict

It is almost staggering arrogance as an owner to claim that you "made" the career of a young player.

Vieira is the one who worked tirelessly to get to the level where he deserved to get into the Leeds first team.

Then again, nothing should be staggering about Cellino any more and if anything, this statement will just make Leeds fans even more glad they have got shot of him.
