Leeds 50% shareholder Massimo Cellino has said that a 50% takeover of the club is the 'best possible choice we could have made' in a message to fans on the official site.

It was confirmed this afternoon that Andrea Radrizzani has purchased a 50% stake in the club with a view to taking a full100% in the summer.

Massimo Cellino, who was the previous majority shareholder at the club, has never been particularly well loved at Leeds and has begun the process of departing to Lilywhites as he serves an 18-month ban from the FA.

In a message to the supporters following the change in ownership, Cellino stressed the importance of this added investment, telling the clubs official website: “I have worked hard for the past three years for Leeds United, we are a massive club, and I feel the only way we can get better is for me to bring in a new partner.

“Andrea is young and brings a new energy with him, as well as having a good experience in the football media business, which is the future for all clubs.

“I feel that bringing Andrea in as a 50% shareholder to work with me is the best choice we could have made. We will continue building a strong and healthy football club for the future.”

This will serve as an added boost to Leeds' season as they make a surprise charge for promotion under Garry Monk, who was nearly sacked by Cellino only a few weeks into the Championship season.

Leeds face Cambridge United in the FA Cup this weekend.
