Derby County rescued an unlikely point against Leeds United in front of the Sky Sports cameras in the early kick-off in the Championship.

Leeds had taken the lead on the day with Max Lowe scoring an own goal, and Marcelo Bielsa's side dominated the majority of the contest on Saturday afternoon.

They had the chance to double that lead, although Mateusz Klich missed his penalty after 70 minutes, which came back to haunt the home side.

But Phillip Cocu's side struck late on with Chris Martin firing home clinically from inside the penalty area to spark jubilant scenes amongst the travelling support.

Derby's Martyn Waghorn took to Instagram after the game to issue high-praise for Martin, who had spent the last two seasons out on loan.

Martin will hope that this goal can give Cocu a welcome selection dilemma for the future, and he's got every right to fancy his chances of a starting spot in the squad.

Derby are next in action when they take on Birmingham City, in a game that they'll be keen to end their winless run in the Championship.

The Rams are winless in their last seven league games, but will surely be pleased with this performance at Elland Road heading into next weekend.

The Verdict:

This is a step in the right direction for the Rams.

They've struggled to gain a foothold in games, and they didn't do that against Leeds - but they took their chances on the day.

If they can build on this, then it seems as though it's only a matter of time before they're challenging for a top-six finish under Phillip Cocu.
