Coventry City have enjoyed an excellent second season in the Championship and will be hoping to kick on under Mark Robins heading into 2022/23.

It has been something of a breakout season for Viktor Gyokeres with the Sky Blues, the 23-year-old struggled to show his true quality with Swansea City and Coventry last term, but since signing on permanent terms at the CBS Arena the striker has taken his game to a new level.

The Swede still has some work to do around the training ground though, and fellow Sky Blues strikers Martyn Waghorn and Matty Godden confirmed that Gyokeres is the most fined player at the club when they appeared on FLW TV this week.

Waghorn said: "Viktor Gyokeres, 1,000,000%, guaranteed at least one or two fines a week, just daft little ones, late for stuff, not filling in his data, so yeah, Vik 100%."

Godden supported Waghorn's selection for the club's most fined player by adding: "Fact, I'm the fine master so I know that he's fined so much."

Maybe a surprise to see Gyokeres pick up some small fines for minor details, after spending over three years in the very high profile youth setup at Brighton and Hove Albion, but the Swede will be judged primarily on what he does on the pitch though and 16 goals in all competitions will have Sky Blues supporters feeling very optimistic about their chances of kicking on next term.

The Verdict

Often it can be the younger players in the dressing room that have to pay the most fines for their negligence.

Waghorn, 32, and Godden, 30, arguably need to act as model pros a little more due to their age, where things like filling in their data can be of greater importance heading into the second half and closing exchanges of their careers.

The striker contingent is looking very healthy at the CBS Arena at the moment, with Fabio Tavares making his first steps into the first team picture and Tyler Walker returning in the summer, Mark Robins will have a lot to contemplate going into pre-season, formulating an XI in his mind that can build a more credible play-off push next term.
