Martinez starts: The predicted Bristol Rovers XI to face Oxford tonight in the FA Cup

Published

on

Bristol Rovers battled to a 2-2 draw with Oxford in this tie a few weeks back and they’ll be determined to take it one step further on home turf by dumping them out of the competition on Tuesday night.

The club are currently battling in the lower half of the League Two table, so to hold Oxford to a draw was no easy feat. They’ve proven they can cut it with the third tier side now and they’ll want to heap more misery on them in midweek by booting them out of the FA Cup entirely.

It’s likely to be a familiar side for Rovers in midweek, with Joey Barton likely to want to keep his team as fresh as he can, with a solid amount of rotation enabling them to push on in the league too.

Who then, could start for the side tonight?

It would be more of a surprise if Joey Barton drastically changed the side that started that last draw against Oxford than if he kept it the same. That’s why, with the exception of a midfield swap, the side here remains largely the same as that one.

Antony Evans remains a key threat up top and with two goals and five assists in the league so far this year, he will likely keep his spot as the man to cause Oxford some danger.

Sam Finley bagged a goal in the last tie and his battling performances in the centre of the field are key to Rovers, so he will be another likely to retain his position despite the fact it is a cup game.

The only real change is Glenn Whelan dropping out, who is sidelined through suspension. It could just be a straight swap for Joey Barton in this instance, with young 21-year-old Pablo Martinez perhaps getting a run out for the side having not featured yet this campaign.

Have Bristol Rovers had a higher or lower average attendance compared to these 23 sides this season

Have Bristol Rovers had a higher or lower attendance than Tranmere Rovers?

If he does, then he will be determined to keep a spot in the team, having last featured for Bristol Rovers back in May against Blackpool, who are now actually in the Championship.
