It has been a season to forget for supporters of Sheffield Wednesday who have been forced to withstand a season of largely abysmal football and a campaign rooted in the bottom half of the Championship.

The Owls have reached the play-offs during the last two campaigns and they were largely fancied to do well this season before a ball was kicked back in August.

Back in January the club appointed unknown boss Jos Luhukay into the managerial position at Hillsborough and his arrival was met with relative disappointment from the Wednesday faithful.

Whether or not the Dutch manager gets the nod to continue in his role beyond the end of this season is likely to be determined by whatever results the club can claim in the next eight games.

FLW writer Lee Clarke takes a look at three free agents that Luhukay might wish to consider if he is still at the South Yorkshire-based club during the summer...

The Danish central defender is out of contract at Brentford during the summer and he would represent a truly quality signing for Sheffield Wednesday.

The 29-year-old has become a real fan favourite since arriving at Griffin Park three seasons ago and the Bees' supporters will undoubtedly be sad to see him go when his deal expires in the summer.

The central midfielder has performed admirably during the 2017/18 campaign for Bristol City and although the Robins maintain the option of a extension to his current deal, there is no saying that he will actually pen new terms at Ashton Gate.

Pack's ability to break things up in the middle of the pitch would make him a quality addition to a Wednesday side that has had something of a soft centre over the course of the current campaign.

The 34-year-old hasn't kicked a ball for Burnley this season due to a knee injury but as he edges closer to full fitness he must be casting one eye towards trying to find a new club next season.

Marney is a little terrier in attack and throughout his career he has scored and assisted some important goals to help both Hull City and the Clarets to the Premier League.
