Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton has revealed that Lee Wallace is edging closer to a return to competitive action.

Despite joining the Hoops earlier this summer following a fruitful eight-year spell at Rangers, the defender has yet to make his debut for his new side due to an issue with his hip (via West London Sport).

Although tonight's clash with Portsmouth will come too early for Wallace, he may be in line to feature against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Speaking to West London Sport about the defender, Warburton said: "He's not far away now, which is great.

"He's a really experienced, high-quality player and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the blue and white shirt."

The Hoops boss also confirmed that Luke Amos has escaped serious injury after only suffering minor damage to his knee in last week's defeat to Swansea City.

Referring to the Tottenham Hotspur loanee, Warburton added: "The scan came back and it looks really positive.

"I was worried when he first came off. With injuries of that nature you worry that it'll be four to six week, but it's not and hopefully it'll be a very swift recovery."

After what was a tumultuous 2018/19 campaign, the R's have experienced an encouraging start to the season under Warburton.

Currently 12th in the Championship standings, the Hoops could close the gap between them and the top-six with a victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough this weekend.

The Verdict

Although QPR have delivered a number of positive performances already this year, it could be argued that Wallace could help the club reach new heights over the coming months.

Whilst the Scotland international has yet to experience the competitiveness of the Championship, he has thrived under the guidance of Warburton before during the 56-year-old's time at Rangers.

With Ryan Manning currently occupying the full-back position for the Hoops, Wallace will have to prove to his boss over the coming days why he should replace his teammate.
