Winger Bright Osayi-Samuel and defender Angel Rangel are both closing in on returns to first-team action, QPR manager Mark Warburton has revealed.

The pair were both regular features for Rangers during the first month of the Championship season, but have been absent from the matchday squad since the international break due to injury, although it appears both are close to getting back to full fitness.

Speaking about the situation around the pair following his side's 2-1 win away at Millwall on Saturday, Warburton was quoted by The Kilburn Times as saying: "They're very, very close. A few of the boys will play on Monday in a game."

It seems the pair are not the only ones who are close to getting back into contention for the senior side, as the QPR boss continued: "Luke Amos is fit and well and training, he had a bit of tightening, Jan Mlakar's coming back.

"We've got some good players. We're a small, young and tight squad."

Another player to miss out at The Den was captain Grant Hall, but providing an update on the defender, Warburton was keen to praise the contribution of his whole squad, as he added: "He (Hall) took a knock but again credit to the players.

"There's Grant who has been captain of the team, he's played every game in pre-season and every game up until now and we lose him on Friday to a knock and Geoff Cameron steps in and we get on with it and come here."

Osayi-Samuel was one of a number of senior players to feature for Rangers' Under 23s side on Monday, with Liam Kelly, Lee Wallace, Conor Masterson and Matt Smith all also putting in appearances in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Following that win over Millwall at the weekend, QPR are now fifth in the Championship standings, and host fourth-placed West Brom on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

I think this is a big boost for QPR.

As Warburton says, they do not have the largest of squads by any stretch of the imagination, so having as many players available as possible will be a big help with regards to managing the workload of a long Championship season.

You feel that having Osayi-Samuel and Rangel back in particular will be welcome news for QPR, given the significant influence that the pair can offer at both ends of the pitch for Warburton's side.

Having already started the season so promisingly, you feel that an update such as this will only enhance the confidence around the club that they really will be to compete at the right end of the table throughout the course of the campaign.
