Mark Warburton has stated that his QPR side can't keep 'adding numbers for the sake of it' after being questioned about a new centre-back.

The R's have conceded a number of goals this season and their defensive play has been much worse than their attacking creativity.

Toni Leistner has become the latest injury casualty for Warburton's side, and he'll be worried about the prospects that his side face in the coming weeks as they look to avoid sliding down the table.

Warburton has expressed that his side don't need new defenders, and has insisted that there is no point adding new players to the squad and then ending up with 28 players.

As quoted by the Kilburn Times, Warburton said: "You just can't keep adding numbers for the sake of it and then in four weeks time find yourselves with 28 players.

"You've got to use your common sense.

"It's the demands of the league, it's the demands of the Christmas programme."

The Verdict

Warburton has a point, but maybe he should think about offloading some of his defenders purely because they haven't been very good so far this season.

The defenders look very good on the eye as they like to get forward and get involved in attacks but in terms of straight out defensively they have been awful and contributed to QPR's low league position after what had been a terrific start to the season.

His point is right, that there is no point buying players and then ending up with so many that you can't pick an appropriate squad and you have to leave some out. However, in this scenario he needs to look for some players that are better than what he has got in order to push up the table.
