Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton has said that the reason why Lee Wallace has not featured in recent weeks for the club is because Todd Kane is capable of playing in both full-back roles.

The Rangers boss spoke to West London Sport following his side's 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest on the weekend at the City Ground, which extended the Hoops' unbeaten run to three games.

Rangers were fortunate to come away with a point in the end after Joe Worrall's header in the first half was disallowed.

Wallace was once again not part of the matchday squad for the trip to Nottingham, which was also the case against Stoke and Swansea.

QUIZ: How much can you remember about QPR's 2020 so far?

“Lee Wallace was 19th man. A top, top player was 19th man. We had Todd Kane, who’s also done very well – but he can play left-back and right-back," Warburton said.

Kane's versatility has meant that he has got the nod over Wallace on the bench, with Mark Warburton also electing to start Ryan Manning and Angel Rangel in the full-back positions in recent games.

The last time Wallace featured for QPR was against Huddersfield on the 8th February.

In total, the 32-year-old has made 11 appearances this season for Rangers in all competitions, scoring one goal.

The Verdict

Although Wallace has rarely put a foot wrong when he has featured for QPR, it seems that Mark Warburton has made this call for the good of the team.

Angel Rangel and Ryan Manning have performed well on either side of the defence in the past couple of matches, and Todd Kane is a better option to have to come off the bench.

However, Wallace will be called upon at some stage, as his leadership qualities and experience are important assets to the Rangers' dressing room.
