Nottingham Forest fell to a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to managerless Sheffield Wednesday yesterday with manager Mark Warburton admitting that his side had let the fans down.

After a good run many fans had hopes of Forest launching a play-off push in the second half of the season, however, four defeats and just one win in their last six has seriously damaged any hopes of that.

The Reds are 13th and ten points away from sixth place, but the Boxing Day defeat was just another example of the major inconsistencies the side have.

And, speaking to the official site, Warburton revealed the second half performance was unacceptable.

"We've lost 3-0 at home so I can't give any positives. We went behind to a wonder-strike early on but then we created a lot of chances. We've let the supporters down in the second half and we never showed our quality to take something from the game."

Even though the Forest side is very young, the ex-Rangers boss still expected more.

"We had a young side out there today but they weren't picked based on their age, they were picked based on their ability and quality."

The Verdict

It was a truly awful day for Forest yesterday against a side without a permanent boss and who were sure to be low on confidence.

Nevertheless, the Owls ran out deserved winners and Warburton is right to criticise his players for their weak performance.

However, he also has to look at himself. Forest are hugely inconsistent, both in performances and results and that's something the manager has to address.
