Matty Godden has been chipping in from the fringes so far this season at the CBS Arena but that does not mean his services and not valued by his manager.

Mark Robins is keen to extend Godden's stay beyond the end of the season, as reported by The Sun on Sunday (26.09.21, pg. 63) and the manager is aware that negotiations will be commencing soon with the club sat third in the Championship, with quotes provided by CoventryLive.

He said: "With the other players, even the ones that are in contract, we’ll look to do things if we possibly can. But finances will obviously dictate how far we can go and what we can do at any given time."

It has been an incredible start from the Sky Blues this season winning all five of their league home games. Viktor Gyokeres has been one of the standout names in the division this season at the top of the pitch for Coventry, until the Swedes' goals dry up it looks unlikely that Godden will see regular first team action.

The 30-year-old has been an excellent servant through the leagues for the Sky Blues and Robins will be keen to reward that service with an extended contract for his current impact substitute.

The Verdict

It is a good opportunity for deals like this to be completed early on in the season with many of Coventry's squad delighted by their start to the season.

Tying important squad players down will give City less work to do next summer and keep the morale of the group high with Robins attempting to strike the balance in distributing minutes across the squad.

The Sky Blues' top six credentials will be put under the microscope this week with a difficult trip to Luton Town followed by a hosting of promotion favourites Fulham. The latter is set to be a fascinating matchup with Robins' men oozing with confidence at the CBS Arena.
