Coventry City boss Mark Robins is remaining pragmatic regarding the situation surrounding the club’s stadium.

The Sky Blues have had their home fixtures so far this season postponed due to an issue with the pitch.

The 52-year old is disappointed that his team is losing out against their Championship rivals as they have had their rhythm disrupted during this process.

However, the club is working to find solutions to the problem.

Firstly, an in-house friendly has been scheduled for Tuesday in order to maintain the team’s fitness with a full programme of league games taking place this midweek.

Next weekend’s clash with Huddersfield Town is under threat, which could leave the team three games behind their league counterparts if the game doesn’t go ahead.

Coventry have proposed for the fixture with the Terriers to be reversed so that it can take place in the John Smith Stadium instead, but it is not expected that this idea will be accepted.

“We can only control what we can. We just want to get that rhythm built,” said Robins, via Coventry Live.

“Everyone else is playing and getting that rhythm and we are playing against sides who are getting games while we keep missing them, so we’re going to have to get an in-house game on Tuesday.

“That’s all we can do to build the rhythm in a different way.

“We will get a linesman and referee and try to build momentum that way. We have two elevens and young players who need to develop. We have to find a way.”

Coventry are currently in the relegation zone with one point from their opening two games, having already had two league games postponed so far this season.

If Saturday’s game is also postponed, then the team’s next fixture won’t be until August 27 when they visit the MKM Stadium to face Hull City.

The Verdict

This is an absurd way to start the season for Coventry and is going to cause issues with the team’s fitness relative to their rivals.

This is such an unwanted setback and another postponement on Saturday would be a huge disappointment.

That would leave the team with three fixtures it needs to find room in the congested calendar to fulfill.

This could leave the club in a very unfortunate position down the road where the side has to compete a relentless schedule in an already business campaign.
