Coventry City boss Mark Robins has confirmed that Sky Blues wing-back Todd Kane has come back into the squad after a summer move away from the club failed to materialise.

The 28-year-old only joined the Sky Blues last summer, but with one year remaining on his deal at the CBS Arena, was earmarked for a transfer this summer.

As per CoventryLive, Kane fell out with manager Mark Robins and when he returned for pre-season, was training with the Sky Blues development squad.

Surgery in August complicated any potential transfer move away, though, and in the end, Kane has remained a Sky Blue beyond the end of the transfer window.

Despite all of the above, it appears that Kane, who made 31 appearances for Coventry last season, is still part of Robins' plans.

“Toddy [Kane] has come back into the squad, yes." Robins confirmed, via CoventryLive.

"He’ll play on Tuesday in the 21s along with some of the others.

"Others will get some down time and then we’ll get back into training leading up to the game back against Middlesbrough after the international break.”

“He’s a brilliant option for us and, in all fairness, he’s looking sharp in training and got the bit between his teeth.

"He’s not moved anywhere in the window and mentally he’s ready to go.”

Coventry City next face Birmingham City in Championship action on Saturday.

Kick-off at St Andrews is scheduled for 3PM UK time.

The Verdict

I think this is good news for Coventry City.

What went on between Robins and Kane is between them, but the crucial thing is that he is still a Coventry player.

As such, Robins has absolutely done the right thing in re-integrating him into his squad.

We saw last season, at times, the talent he possesses at wing-back at this level and his return should provide real competition in the place after Fankaty Dabo appears to have claimed it in his absence.

You wouldn't be at all surprised to see Kane reclaim that spot in the coming weeks and months, though.
