Coventry City boss Mark Robins has said there are 'lots of plates spinning' despite a quiet window for the Sky Blues so far.

The Sky Blues finished 12th in the Championship last campaign, and until the final few weeks of the campaign, were challenging for a play-off place.

This summer then, you would think that Robins is looking to make additions to further consolidate the club in the top half of the table.

Speaking to BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Radio, via CoventryLive, the Sky Blues boss suggested that was the case: “We’re trying to bring new players in but I have to say it’s been pretty slow this summer, as it has for everyone, but that will ramp up, I have no doubt,”

“I have just taken a call just now, on the phone to another manager. I’m trying to do deals so there are loads of things still going on, lots of plates spinning.

“We have got specific targets and specific positions. The targets may change for the positions we need to fill but I need to carry a slightly smaller squad. But I want more quality wherever I can in order to help bridge that gap to get higher up the table than we did last year.

“The longer you are in the league the better chance you have got. That might sound strange, but it’s true. The longer you are in the division you can establish yourself and try to build your way to a better future."

Coventry City's 2022/23 Championship campaign will get underway with an away trip to Sunderland on the 31st July.

The Verdict

Whilst it may have been a slow window for some clubs, it hasn't for others.

Nevertheless, it sounds as though Mark Robins is working hard to make additions to his Coventry City squad ahead of the new season.

Going off of his comments, the club are looking to finish even higher than 12th next campaign, and you wouldn't bet against them doing so.

The key, though, will be making some smart additions in the market this summer, whilst also keeping hold of their best players in Gus Hamer, Callum O'Hare and Viktor Gyokeres.
