Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to put an end to a poor run of form when they return to action on Wednesday evening in the FA Cup.

But it won't be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination, as they prepare to take on Premier League giants Manchester City in the fifth round of the competition at Hillsborough.

Garry Monk's side have only won once in their last eight league games, which has seen the pressure increase on the Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Speaking in a segment on BBC Sport (quotes sourced from the Sheffield Star), pundit Mark Lawrenson issued his thoughts ahead of the game, and labelled the Owls as a 'dreadful' team at the moment.

"Sheffield Wednesday are in freefall in the Championship, and I am not sure why.

"They are a good, competitive side when you watch them, but after going on a great run to climb up the table, they are now on a dreadful one and dropping down it."

Lawrenson predicted a 2-0 win for Manchester City on Wednesday, and the pundit voiced his concern over the Owls' chances on the night.

"They were third at Christmas but are now eight points off the play-off places after losing eight of their past 13 games, and I always worry about teams who are streaky like that.

"Manchester City are not the team you want to be playing when you are struggling, especially in their current mood."

The Verdict:

His comments certainly aren't going to sit well with Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

I agree with Lawrenson in saying that the Owls are struggling at the moment, but I don't agree with him in saying that they're a 'dreadful' side.

The ability is there in Garry Monk's squad, but they just need to recapture their best form at the earliest of opportunities as they look to lift themselves up the Championship table.

I'm not convinced that their turnaround in form will start against Manchester City though, and I can see a routine win for Pep Guardiola's side at Hillsborough on Wednesday evening.
