Huddersfield Town boss Mark Fotheringham has confirmed that the club are "very active" in trying to bring in a goalkeeper ahead of the transfer deadline.

The Terriers were hit with a blow recently when first choice keeper Lee Nicholls was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

One of the club's reported targets, Newcastle United's Karl Darlow has agreed a deal to join Hull City, with the Terriers also linked with a move for Birmingham City's Neil Etheridge in recent days.

"Yes, of course - we are very active in that respect." Fotheringham responded when asked if the club would look to sign a new keeper before the deadline, via The Yorkshire Post.

"The guys are working really hard on the recruitment side and hopefully we will have some news in the next few days."

With Nicholls absent, Nicholas Bilokapic has stepped in in recent weeks.

Assessing the 20-year-old's performance at Coventry on Saturday, Fotheringham said: "I think young Nick was good, he made some good saves and had a really solid performance for a guy who is pretty much never played any first team football."

"We protected him really well up until their two goals and we know we could have done a lot better.

"The back five protected him, it is just unfortunate the way we conceded the two goals in the second phase.”

The Verdict

It's more than understandable that Huddersfield are seeking to add a keeper before the deadline.

Losing Lee Nicholls is a huge blow given their battle to stay in the division and they simply can't risk relying upon Nicholas Bilokapic.

At just 20, however talented he may be, he is vastly inexperienced and as Fotheringham points out, has played hardly any senior football.

It seems at this stage that Neil Etheridge is the most realistic target for the club at this stage, so it'll be interesting to see if the Terriers can strike a deal with the Blues ahead of Tuesday night's deadline.
