Marcus Evans has revealed that the manager situation at Ipswich will be confirmed before the Early Bird season ticket deadline.

Mick McCarthy has a fractured relationship with the Tractor Boys supporters even though he has kept them away from danger consistently in his time at the club.

Ipswich are currently 12th in the table with 19 points separating them from the relegation spots, so they are safe for another season realistically.

The issue that the supporters appear to have is his style of football, which isn't known for his entertainment, coupled with the fact that they haven't finished in the play-offs under him with seventh being the best finish.

They don't appear to be progressing under him based on their league positions over the last few seasons, so fans want a change.

This is what Marcus Evans had to say in a letter to season ticket holders according to the Ipswich Town official site: "As I’m sure you are aware, Mick’s contract is up at the end of the season and I’m fully aware that there will be supporters who will be waiting to see how that situation develops."

"I continue to have a very good relationship with Mick. We talk regularly and we will sit down and discuss the best way forward for this Football Club in the next few weeks. And that is the sole concern for me - what is best for Ipswich Town."

"Supporters will know the result of that conversation in due course but it will be made public well in advance of the Early Bird deadline."

The Verdict

This is a good decision by the club because it ensures that the supporters are aware of the outcome prior to spending their money. Therefore, they can make a judgement based on their opinion of McCarthy.

Evans has managed to take a neutral approach in regards to McCarthy's contract running out at the end of the season, so he has handled it well so far.

It's a shame that relations have deteriorated between the two parties to such extent, but modern football is short-term in its nature. Lack of progression means that patience will eventually run out with change being the inevitable outcome.
