Marco Silva discusses future of Fulham player drawing links to Leeds and West Ham

Fulham boss Marco Silva has hinted that he’s confident that in-demand teenager Fabio Carvalho will stay at the west London club this summer despite links to the likes of Leeds United and West Ham United.

The 18-year-old has entered the final year of his Craven Cottage contract and is said to have turned down the new terms initially offered by the Championship outfit.

Carvalho has been linked with a string of top-tier clubs this summer, including Leeds, Norwich City, Porto, and West Ham, and has certainly impressed in the opening weeks of the season – scoring twice and adding an assist in the first three Championship games of 2021/22.

The attacking midfielder was Fulham’s star man as they beat Millwall 2-1 at the Den yesterday, setting up Aleksandar Mitrovic’s third-minute opener before scoring himself five minutes later, and Silva was pressed on his future after the game.

BBC Radio London’s Emma Jones asked the Cottagers boss if he was confident Carvalho would stay at the club and he responded: “Why not? He likes this club.

“He needs to be where he is pushed but also supported. I’m really pleased to see how he’s growing but he also needs to keep his feet on the ground.”

A product of the west London club’s academy system, Carvalho developed through the U18s and U23s before making his debut in the 2020/21 campaign.

Eight more appearances for Fulham have followed, though if Silva gets his way the 18-year-old will make many more this term.

The Verdict

Silva’s comments hint that he feels confident that the west London club can keep hold of the 18-year-old this summer and moving forward.

You feel that once the transfer window closes, Fulham will have a better chance of agreeing a new contract with Carvalho as it may just be that at the moment he wants to leave all his options open.

The attacking midfielder has been fantastic through the first few weeks of the season and it’s clear to see why there are a number of clubs keen to snap him up.

Should one of those make a significant bid for the teenager, it will be very interesting to see how Fulham respond and just how highly they value him.

One thing is for certain, supporters will not want to see him depart.
