Leeds United have the upper hand in their play-off semi-final tie with Derby County after securing a precious 1-0 victory in the first leg at Pride Park.

Kemar Roofe struck in the second half to give Marcelo Bielsa's the advantage going in to Wednesday's rematch, but the Whites have since seen their preparation disrupted by a double injury blow.

Roofe and Adam Forshaw have both been ruled out after being withdrawn early at Pride Park, which means Bielsa will be forced to make changes for the return fixture.

Patrick Bamford is set to return from his two-match suspension to lead the line for the Whites, while the likes of Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke will be waiting in the wings for their opportunity.

Clarke replaced Roofe with nine minutes remaining on Saturday evening, and he started his stint up front before switching to the left wing.

Given Leeds' injury concerns, the 18-year-old could now play a more prominent role on Wednesday as he looks to inflict similar damage on Derby to that when he made a stunning assist for Roofe when the sides met at Elland Road in January.

Ahead of the match, Bielsa's translator Salim Lamrani has given Clarke a vote of confidence by labelling him as 'the wave' in his latest tweet.

Lamrani, who is also an academic, has developed a habit of bestowing nicknames on players in Bielsa's squad, with this latest tweet hinting that Clarke is firmly in the management's thinking ahead of the second leg.

The Verdict

I don't expect Clarke to start the second leg, as Bamford will replace Roofe and Shackleton will probably step in Forshaw.

However, Clarke should get a longer run-out than nine minutes in this meeting, particularly if Leeds need to chase the game at some point.

Clarke has already caused problems for Derby this season, which Bielsa will view as a good omen ahead of the second leg.
