Leeds United teenager Mateusz Bogusz has reportedly blown Marcelo Bielsa away in pre-season and is set to feature for the first team this season.

The midfielder has not yet made an appearance for the Leeds senior side but it appears that may be about to change in 2019/20.

According to Football Insider, the 17-year-old has really impressed the Argentine coach in the Whites' pre-season fixtures and on the training ground.

The report suggests that Bielsa is ready to fast-track the midfielder into the first team, similar to his treatment of Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton in the 2018/19 campaign.

It is understood that the Leeds staff believe that Bogusz has both the quality and the maturity to make over 20 appearances for the first team this season and that he is set to be named in the squad for their opener against Bristol City on Sunday.

The Polish under-20 international, who can play in either central or attacking midfield, joined the Whites from Ruch Churow in his homeland in January 2019 and signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club.

The Verdict

Leeds have been brilliant at bringing through young players into the first team over the past few years, you only have to look at players like Clarke, Shackleton and Kalvin Phillips to see the evidence of that.

During his debut season at the helm, Bielsa bought into that mantra was not scared to put his faith in young players, with 18-year-old Clarke and 19-year-old Shackleton both making important contributions.

Bogusz’s ability to play as both a centre-midfielder and an attacking-midfielder makes him an ideal player to slot into one of the two central midfield roles in front of Phillips in the 4-1-4-1 formation that Bielsa preferred last season.

Leeds were reportedly interested in Romaine Sawyers before he was snapped up by West Bromwich Albion but given the opportunity, the 17-year-old may be able to make the Whites quickly forget about missing out on him this season.
