Leeds United's hopes of keeping Marcelo Bielsa for a second season look to have been given a significant boost, with the club set to hold further talks over the 63-year-old's future at Elland Road.

Bielsa narrowly missed out on guiding Leeds to Premier League promotion in his first season in English football, with an ultimately unsuccessful automatic promotion campaign being followed by a dramatic play-off semi final defeat to Derby County last week.

It now appears however that Bielsa is likely to have a second attempt at bringing Premier League football back to Elland Road, with The Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that sources close to the Argentine are increasingly confident he will agree to stay with the Yorkshire side for a second season ahead of another round of talks about Bielsa's future at the club this week.

There had been questions about whether Bielsa would walk away from the club following failure to gain promotion to the Premier League despite having the option of a second season at the club, with Italian press recently linking Bielsa with a move to Serie A side Roma.

The verdict

This will be a huge boost for Leeds.

Bielsa has worked wonders to get Leeds in contention for promotion this season, and you feel him staying will be key to them competing for a place in the Premier League again next season.

Holding off a side such as Roma is also a significant statement of intent for Leeds ahead of next season.
