It can often be difficult for younger players coming through at top Championship sides as they may feel a path to the first-team is blocked.
However, that’s certainly not the case at Leeds United, with Marcelo Bielsa leaning on the talented U23 side a lot during what has been a successful campaign so far.
The likes of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke have all made significant impacts, with others playing a role too.
And, one of the more exciting youngsters who could be the next through the ranks is Ryan Edmondson.
Even though he’s only 17, the striker has already played two league games for the Whites, which demonstrates how highly-rated he is – and he was name-checked by Bielsa today.
The Argentinian acknowledged that he has three senior players ahead of him in the pecking order but also praised the teenager for how much he has improved since the start of the season.
That will give Edmondson a major lift and to hear such a respected manager make those comments and it will serve as even more motivation to get in the first-team.
Realistically, that’s not going to be this season as Bielsa has other options that have done very well but the player knows he is making an impact.
Now it’s down to Edmondson to continue to make a positive impression with Carlos Corberan’s youngsters because he knows that with Bielsa if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.
