Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Kalvin Phillips' injury only appears to be a kick, although he will be assessed in the coming days.

The influential midfielder, who is crucial to this Whites team, was forced off towards the end of the first half in the 1-0 victory against Reading this afternoon.

Whilst he was seen celebrating with his teammates and the fans at the end of the game, the fact he went off was a major worry for Leeds as they look to win automatic promotion.

However, Bielsa moved to ease fears of a potential lengthy lay-off, insisting that the early signs suggest it's nothing serious and just an impact injury.

"I think it's a kick, but I don't know if this [will evolve] as a serious injury or not," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Yorkshire side have a short turnaround to their next game, with Bielsa's side facing Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Wednesday night.

Leeds moved five points clear of third place as the three teams directly below them dropped points.

The verdict

This was the only negative from Leeds' perspective today as Phillips is such a good player at this level and the Whites have missed him a lot when he has been suspended in the past.

So, this update will be really encouraging, even if they probably won't know the extend of the knock for a day or two. But, if it was something serious Bielsa would have had an idea.

It's now about doing everything possible to get Phillips fit and ready to take on Boro in the week.
