Leeds United Marcelo Bielsa says that Adam Forshaw is better suited to partnering Mateusz Klich than Samu Saiz, report the Yorkshire Evening Post

Bielsa handed the former Middlesbrough man his first league start of the season in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening and was impressed by what he saw.

"It's as if he didn't need to play many games to play as he did today," Bielsa said.

"This tells you how prepared he was. "He didn't prepare himself with games, he did it in training sessions."

When asked why he chose to play Forshaw alongside Klich instead of Saiz, he said:

"I thought that the association between Forshaw and [Mateusz] Klich could give us agility in the building of offensive play."

Saiz has been an everpresent in Bielsa's squad since the start of the season but his form has suffered in recent weeks, leading to his omission on Saturday.

The Whites were trailing for most of the game on Friday after Jack Robinson headed the visitors in front.

But they drew level eight minutes from time when Kemar Roofe controversially diverted the ball into the net with his lower arm.

Forshaw made the move to Elland Road in January, moving from Middlesbrough for a fee of around £4.5million, but has been hampered somewhat by injuries so far.

The verdict

This competition can be nothing but a good thing for the Whites.

If Forshaw is currently deemed to be a better option than Saiz, then it is up to the Spaniard to improve and show Bielsa that he is capable of taking that spot back.

Meanwhile, it should lead to there always being a solid midfield pair in the side.
