Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been earmarked by Everton as a possible replacement for Marco Silva, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.

The Argentinian manager has guided Leeds to top of the Championship, a position they current occupy despite their last-gasp draw with Middlesbrough yesterday. They may drop to second later today as Norwich face Ipswich, but they're still very much in with a shout of Premier League football.

The Mirror report suggests that Everton might be about to offer Bielsa a quicker route to the top tier, with their current boss coming under immense pressure after a poor run of results. They've suffered five Premier League defeats in 2019, as well as a humiliating FA Cup 4th round exit at the hands of Millwall.

It's suggested in the report that the Everton hierarchy are impressed with the CV of 63-year-old, which includes spells with Marseille and Lazio. Given the Toffeemen's current run of form, they could be tempted to make a shock move for Bielsa before the end of the season.

The Verdict

What a huge shock this would be. Bielsa has done incredibly well with Leeds, but his methods seem a million miles away from the Premier League. He works with a small squad and was loathe to sign too many players in the transfer window, which doesn't fit with the Everton philosophy of late.

If they do make a move for him it could seriously derail Leeds own hopes of a top flight return after a decade in the doldrums.
