Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa will give the club the go-ahead as they look to complete the signing of Abel Hernandez, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Wednesday 20th June, 16:02].

Hernandez is widely thought to be one of Leeds' top transfer targets this summer after he left Hull City to become a free agent.

The Uruguay international will be available on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of this month and Leeds have been working to bring him in as the solution to their striker problems.

The former Palermo man hit eight goals in eight starts for Hull last season after coming back from a long-term injury and his tally of 20 league goals in 2015/16 - to help Hull to promotion - shows that he is a top striker at Championship level.

Leeds face competition for Hernandez, though, with Premier League new boys Cardiff City and Italian side Cagliari among the teams eyeing up a late move to beat the Whites to his signature.

But Leeds are aiming to fend off this late interest and snap up the 27-year-old after Bielsa gave his seal of approval for this move to go ahead.

The Verdict

Hernandez is a top striker at Championship level and his availability as a free agent means that a number of clubs will want him.

If he can stay fit all season, he will surely fire at least 20 goals for Leeds and have them competing for promotion.

Although his wages will be hefty, this could be the risk that Leeds need to take to finally secure promotion back to the Premier League.
